As a little girl growing up in a small town in the south, I often imagined my fairy-tale wedding. I pictured myself in a beautiful long white poofy wedding dress, like the one Cinderella wore, a long white veil, and gorgeous white satin shoes. I continued to hold on to my fairy-tale throughout the years with slight changes here and there. Once I was allowed to date, I could see my fairy-tale disappearing with the passing of time. There were many heart breaks , emotional, mental , and even physical abuse that made me change my mind about marriage altogether. I had lost myself as well as having lost hope in finding a good man. I had to find myself and most importantly, I had to start LOVING myself. Ultimately, I had to work on healing childhood traumas, the many years of heartaches and pain, the multiple types of abuse, and learn to love myself through it all. My growth and love for myself took four years to achieve. At the end of it all, I met my best friend, confidant, and now future husband. He has been a beacon of hope and love. Because of him, my fairy-tale wedding is coming true.
